Dallas Cowboys Face Running Back Dilemma: Could Ezekiel Elliott Return?

Los Dallas Cowboys face a significant need at the running back position after Tony Pollard left for the Tennessee Titans in free agency, leaving them with limited options in the backfield. With only Deuce Vaughn y Hunter Luepke currently under contract for next season, the Cowboys are considering bringing back Ezekiel Elliottwho was released last season in a cap-saving move.

Despite a disappointing performance with the New England Patriots last season, Elliott could still contribute to the running backs committee. Patrick Walker de DallasCowboys.com suggests that a meeting with Elliott it’s a posibility.

“I wouldn’t rule out a possible reunion with Ezekiel Elliott (and then also drafting an RB to form a tandem).” wrote Walker in X.

“His relationship with the Cowboys remains positive and dialogue has remained open.”

Despite the amicable nature of his departure from Dallas after seven seasons, Elliott remains close to Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, which could factor into a potential return.

“He’s like my little brother, obviously my best friend,” Prescott said last season.

“We came into this together and grew on and off the field. It was incredible. Obviously, it was unfortunate for him to go play for another team, but it’s part of this business.

“We learned that pretty quickly and seeing him when we had to split up, that’s part of it. Happy for him, always supporting him.”

Other broker options

However, the Cowboys may also explore other options, including former Packer running back AJ Dillon, who has been reliable over the past three seasons. The Cowboys will likely need to bolster their running back depth during the draft or as remaining free agents to complement any potential signings.
