Criticism from Nagelsmann: The Treatment of Coaches at Bayern Munich

München – Almost exactly a year ago, FC Bayern parted ways with Julian Nagelsmann and Thomas Tuchel was named his successor. In the summer, Munich’s second coach in less than a year and a half will be history; the contract with Tuchel will be terminated at the end of the season.

On Wednesday evening, national coach Nagelsmann commented on this issue – and sent a swipe towards Munich.

Nagelsmann criticizes the way coaches are treated

“I have a general opinion on how you deal with coaches, what you expect from a coach and, on the other hand, how you have his back and give him the time to do it,” Nagelsmann replied to a fan at a discussion organized by the DFB , who asked him about his exit from the German record champions. Although Nagelsmann emphasized that his criticism did not explicitly refer to FC Bayern, he nevertheless followed up.

“It’s always said that the coach is the most important person in the club. And it’s bizarre that the most important person is always thrown out first. Something’s not right,” added the 36-year-old.

As with Guardiola and Klopp: Nagelsmann demands more time for coaches

Nagelsmann was released from FC Bayern in March 2023, although he was still represented in all three competitions at the time. Basically, the Landsberg native would like the coaches to be given more time in the professional business and cited two prominent examples: Jürgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola.

“No one won the Champions League in the first year and the championship took a while to come. Jürgen had five years to win the Champions League title, Pep had seven years and something between 600 million and 1, 2 billion euros in investments. And on top of that, in addition to time,” emphasized Nagelsmann. He sees a similar development to that in society. “If something is complicated or difficult, I throw it away and do something else. It’s the same in football,” said the 36-year-old.

Nagelsmann defends Tuchel: “It’s not healthy for development”

Now FC Bayern is in danger of missing out on winning the German championship for the first time since 2012. League leaders Leverkusen are within ten points eight match days before the end of the season – but that’s actually not a problem for Nagelsmann: “In the end it’s normal, and I speak for Thomas too Tuchel says that not only one team always becomes champion. That’s normal and that’s also healthy.”

After all, according to the ex-Bayern coach, when you’re successful you make the biggest mistakes. “You have to admit it and have a certain amount of calm to walk through a valley in these moments. We all need a little more peace, of course it’s spurred on by the media world, it’s an extremely hot seat. But healthy for you “It’s not development,” says Nagelsmann.
