He Puerto Golfito FC and 3 of its members were suspended for 10 years by the Disciplinary Commission of the Costa Rican Football Federation (Fedefútbol) for match-fixing in the Promotion League.
This was reported this Tuesday by the Federation entity, after notifying the final resolution of file 001-2023, corresponding to a disciplinary process.
The sanctioned persons are: 1) Roy Telles Campos, shareholder and president of the team, 2) Deivis Antonio Barquero, majority shareholder, and 3) Arturo Alberoni Palma Falla, sports manager.
The investigation began in November of last year, and even with FIFA as part of the investigation.
“The FIFA Integrity Officer in Costa Rica presented a report to the FCRF Disciplinary Commission, after conducting an investigation into from an alert from FIFA’s suspicious activity detection system.
The investigation included, among others, reports prepared by the company Sportradar (a specialist in detecting irregular activity in sports betting), as well as testimonies from several people who came to give their statements,” Fedefútbol detailed.
After that, the Disciplinary Commission developed the formal procedure, notifying those investigated, reviewing the pieces of evidence, and calling witnesses to interview them directly.
Finally, said entity determined by unanimous vote of its membersthat the leaders of Puerto Golfito Fútbol Club, indeed, participated in match-fixing
“Because it is a matter that could take its course in the instance of the Court of Appeal, “More details cannot be provided,” Fedefútbol concluded.
