Controversy Surrounds Liverpool’s Winning Goal Against Nottingham Forest: Klopp Reacts

Sunday, March 3 2024 – 19:28 WIB

England – Liverpool’s winning goal over Nottingham Forest scored by Darwin Nunez in the last minute became controversial. Manager Juergen Klopp opened his voice about oblique statements.

Liverpool won the Premier League match which took place at the City Ground, Saturday evening WIB 2 March 2024 with a score of 1-0. Nunez found the net for the hosts when injury time entered the ninth minute.

The striker from Uruguay scored a goal with a header. He continued a mature pass released by Alexis McAllister.

What became controversial was that referee Paul Tierney, who led the match, was deemed to have made the wrong decision. He blew the whistle when the Nottingham Forest players were in possession of the ball and attacking.

He blew the whistle because Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate had a head problem. But not long after, the player got up again and continued playing.

When the match was about to restart, Paul Tierney dropped the ball at Liverpool goalkeeper, Caoimhim Kelleher. From there, the Reds’ attack was built and led to a goal.

“That also happened in the first half, right? Exactly the same, but the situation turned around. I accept that if what happened in the first half didn’t happen,” said Klopp, quoted from Tribal Football.

Klopp doesn’t want to continue the controversy. He could only assume that the rules were like that because the situation happened twice. If not, of course the referee didn’t do it.

“I understand 100 percent Nottingham’s joy and anger. They have fought. But it happened twice and the way was the same,” said the German tactician.
