Gijang-gun, Busan, announced on the 18th that the construction of the indoor gateball court at Ilgwang Recreation Area is progressing smoothly with the goal of completion in the first half of this year.
The Ilgwang Recreation Area indoor gateball court will be built in the Ilgwang-eup area with a total floor area of 2,028㎡ and two floors above ground, and includes two indoor gateball courts and four badminton courts.
The county has invested a total project cost of 5.8 billion won and has been pushing ahead with construction in earnest, starting in June of last year. It is currently scheduled to be completed in June after going through the second half of the process.
When the indoor gateball stadium is completed in the future, it is expected that a living sports space will be created where local residents can enjoy gateball and badminton without being affected by the season or weather.
Gijang-gun Mayor Jeong Jong-bok said, “The construction of an indoor gateball court will not only improve the health of the elderly, but also greatly improve the sports environment for residents,” and asked, “Please work hard to manage the process to improve the convenience of residents when using the facility and to ensure safe construction.”
Meanwhile, the Ilgwang Amusement Park development project includes the Gunmin Sports Park (National Sports Center, indoor gateball field), World Cup Village (sports stadium, youth hostel, soccer park), and baseball theme park (regular stadium, little and softball stadium, museum, experience center, and practice field). This is a project to create a multi-purpose citizen park in the eastern part of the country.
