Concerns Grow Over Jrue Holiday’s Shoulder Injury as Celtics Face Uncertainty

Forfeited last night in Detroit, Jrue Holiday missed his third consecutive game because of his shoulder injury. Injury that seems a little more serious than expected…

This isn’t the most reassuring news if you’re a Celtics fan.

Hit in the shoulder during the match against the Wizards on March 17, Jrue Holiday was diagnosed with a contusion and the pain seems to persist if we are to believe the latest update from the Boston Globe. A pain that prevents him from having full possession of his right arm. In the jargon, we speak of “Dead Arm Syndrome”, which most often affects athletes who are used to throwing balls repeatedly. We think of quarterbacks in American football, pitchers in baseball, or even handball players.

Here’s the play when it happened in the third quarter of last Sunday’s game against the Washington Wizards. Holiday stayed in the game for six minutes after this.

Hopefully some more rest can fix this. pic.twitter.com/LadKKvXAgD

Jrue Holiday is a basketball player, and we are less used to being confronted with this kind of problem in the NBA. What to worry about? For the moment, no return date has been revealed and more rest seems necessary for Holiday. Jrue nevertheless hopes to return to the court quickly to be ready when the Playoffs begin in a month. In the most extreme cases, this type of injury can result in an operation, but we are not there yet. And we hope it never comes to that.

Needless to say, a potential extended absence of Jrue Holiday would represent a major blow to the Celtics. Still formidable in defense, an integral member of the C’s magnificent season, Holiday has an important role to play in the quest for this famous 18th title for Boston.
