Communication Manager of Burundi Basketball Federation Resigns Amid Dynamo Basketball Club Crisis

With the crisis that the Dynamo Basketball Club is going through today, the communications manager of the Burundi Basketball Federation (Febabu), Armand Nisabwe, has announced his resignation.

This decision comes as the club finds itself in an impasse since last weekend, when Dynamo BBC were forced to forfeit their match against Fus Rabat Basketball.

The match was scheduled for Sunday March 10, 2024 in Pretoria as part of the 4th season of the Basketball Africa League (BAL-2024). It was canceled because the Burundian team refused to comply with league rules regarding jersey and uniform requirements, according to BAL president Amadou Gallo Fall.

This situation mainly stems from an email sent on Saturday March 9 by the president of Febabu, Jean-Paul Manirakiza, to FIBA and the organizers of the competition, an hour before Dynamo’s first match. This email proposes that the club can play with its own jerseys, without mentioning the registration of the sponsor Visit Rwanda.

In an email sent to the Dynamo club on the night of Monday March 11 at 11:21 p.m., Febabu asked the team to play either with their own jerseys or with the logo of the sponsor Visit Rwanda hidden as they did on Saturday previous.

That day, the Dynamo club won its first match against a South African team, the Cape Town Tigers, with a score of 86 to 73. Dynamo played the match with the Visit Rwanda inscription hidden by a black banner on his jerseys.

It seems that the decision taken by the president of Febabu would not have been well received by the board of directors of the federation. In a publication on

The BAL was created in 2019 as part of a partnership between the NBA and FIBA, with the aim of establishing a first continental-scale basketball league in Africa. Rwanda is one of the partners of this competition which takes place in South Africa through Visit Rwanda and the Rwandan airline, Rwanda Airlines. The final of this competition will take place in Kigali, the Rwandan capital.
