Colombia Makes History with Stunning Victory Over Spain in Friendly Match

Colombia’s big blow. This Friday evening, the Colombians beat, for the first time in their history, Spain (1-0), in a friendly match. At the London Stadium, the only scorer was Daniel Muñoz (61st). In the three previous confrontations against this same opponent, the Cafeteros had two draws and one defeat.

Halftime of this meeting did a lot of good for Colombia, which came back completely transformed. Better offensive intentions rewarded just after the hour mark. On his left side, Luis Diaz made the difference, before sending a cross to the far post. For Daniel Muñoz, who emerged to score his team’s only goal, with a magnificent acrobatic shot with his right foot (61st, 0-1).

The entry into play of James Rodriguez changed everything

An action initiated by James Rodriguez, whose entry into play at the break did his team a lot of good. It was even the former Monegasque who had got his team’s first big chance, but his powerful left-footed shot had been sent away for a corner, with the tips of his gloves and just above his crossbar, by Alex Remiro (57th), not spared for his first selection. The Real Sociedad goalkeeper, who had a final intervention to make at the end of the match against Muñoz (86th), came on at the break, in place of David Raya.

Unlike his compatriot, the Arsenal goalkeeper had a much quieter 45 minutes. Only Mateo Cassierra (21st) and Jhon Arias (45th) had requested him. In this first period, it was Spain who lit the first fuse, through Alejandro Grimaldo (3rd). Camilo Vargas was impenetrable and resisted throughout the match. His other interventions took place after the break. The first in front of Gerard Moreno, author of a very nice volley with his left foot (49th) and the second against Alex Baena (80th).
