Club Brugge in Search of Stability: The Hunt for a New Head Coach

As expected, Club Brugge said goodbye to Ronny Deila last Monday. As a result, the people of Bruges must once again look for a suitable successor. And this is already the sixth time in just two years.

For years, Club was a beacon of steadfastness when it came to its head coaches, but that changed after the move of Philippe Clement to AS Monaco. Alfred Schreuder left for Ajax after six months. After a few months, the promotion of Carl Hoefkens turned out not to be exactly the right decision.

His successor, Scott Parker, was even more miscast. After 67 days, the Englishman was fired, after which Rik De Mil finished the season as T1 ad interim. In the meantime, the search for a new head coach began and the choice ultimately fell on Deila.

Understanding Clement

He too has now been fired. Nicky Hayen will complete the season as interim head coach, and a T1 must be appointed again next summer. The list of most recent trainers at Club Brugge continues to grow considerably.

However, according to Jack Hendry, who played about 40 matches on behalf of Club, one man stood out. The Scottish defender thought that Clement was by far the best trainer. “He had many personal conversations with me. He told me what I needed to improve and believed in me. I was very disappointed when he went to Monaco,” he said. The Daily Record.

Respect from locker room

But it wasn’t just from a personal perspective that Clement stood out, according to Hendry. “His merits speak for themselves. He is a good manager and a top coach who understands the game. He also had that winning mentality. He was driven and wanted to win everything. All the players looked up to him, listened when he spoke and appreciated him,” said the international.
