Cleveland Cavaliers Announce Plans for High-Tech Training Center in Downtown Cleveland

The Cavs on the cutting edge of technology. The Ohio franchise revealed plans for a new high-tech training center for his team, with the hope of attracting “free agents” to Cleveland, a historically unpopular destination.

Subject to approval from the city’s planning commission, the franchise hopes to begin work on the 20,000-square-foot Cleveland Clinic Global Peak Performance Center later this year and open its doors by 2027.

The complex is financed by Cavs owner Dan Gilbert in partnership with the Cleveland Clinic. Dan Gilbert initially considered using the land along the Cuyahoga River for the second phase of a casino project that never came to fruition.

Today, it is reassigned to the Cavs, who have been training in Independence, Ohio, since 2007. While that facility is still functional and adequate, it is no longer considered practical enough as the team has expanded its staff and expanded with the addition of G-League team Cleveland Charge.

Dive into the rooms of other franchises

It is not possible to expand this site due to geographic and logistical constraints, and the Cavs would prefer to be close to their home, Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse.

« This project is the first step in creating a more vibrant, growth-oriented neighborhood that will transform the look and feel of downtown », Promises Dan Gilbert, who plans a $3.5 billion redevelopment of the riverfront, unused for decades.

One of the most interesting details of the facility is an immersive shooting lab simulator that, almost instantly, would allow members of the Cavs to “play” in other rooms around the league. Which would make it easier for Donovan Mitchell and the others to adapt to the specificities of each lair.

Further proof that NBA franchises will stop at nothing to improve their infrastructure. We also recall that the Spurs have invested 500 million dollars for their new training center.
