Clarisse Agbégnénou secures back-to-back Grand Slam victories in Tashkent

Clarisse Agbégnénou won a new Grand Slam victory on Saturday in Tashkent (Uzbekistan), a month after the one won in Paris. In her -63 kg category, the Frenchwoman, reigning Olympic champion and world champion, won in the final against the Japanese Momo Tatsukawa by ippon on the golden score.

Agbégnénou triumphed after a close fight, his opponent – who will not be at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games – locking in the attacks. She finally found the opening and made the difference on the ground. In the semi-finals, Clarisse Agbégnénou had ruled out another Japanese, Nami Nabekura (ippon), who will not be at the Olympics either.

The Olympic champion’s next meeting should be the World Championships in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates) from May 19 to 24.

Margaux Pinot in silver

After bronze, silver. On the third step of the podium at the Paris Grand Slam, Margaux Pinot won a silver medal in Tashkent. The PSG judoka reunited with Miriam Butkereit for a revenge of the final of the Grand Slam in Tel Aviv last year, won by the Frenchwoman.

Comfortable in the fight, the native of Besançon was fooled on a counter shortly before the end of regulation time and conceded a devastating ippon. The fifth Major success will wait for the one who has not received her ticket for the 2024 Olympics.
