Clara Ponsatí and Jordi Graupera announce a new independence party

Junts MEP Clara Ponsatí and philosopher Jordi Graupera announced this Monday evening on social networks that on April 23 they will present their new project at the Teatre Borràs in Barcelona, ​​at 6:30 p.m. “The country needs a breakthrough,” said Graupera. The new proposal is called “Alhora”. “What does Catalonia need? Roots and future, independence and good government, at the same time”, summarizes the video released this Monday.

The announcement comes in the middle of a debate about the fourth independence space, since the ANC, for its part, is also debating whether to promote a civic list in the Parliament of Catalonia. In fact, voting has already begun on whether the entity should take this step forward or not and the result will be known on March 14. However, there is not only the possibility that a list promoted by the Assembly or by Ponsatí and Graupera will run in the elections, but there may still be a new pro-independence candidacy, in this case, from the extreme right led by the Mayor of Ripoll, Sílvia Orriols.

Ponsatí breaks definitively with Junts

With this announcement, Junts MEP Clara Ponsatí marks definitive distances with Carles Puigdemont’s party. Although he has never been a militant and is appearing on his lists as an independent, he still represents the party in the European Parliament. The official step of making a new political formation distances her from the members, who no longer counted on her for the next European elections, on June 9.

The distance between Ponsatí and Puigdemont has to do with the differences on the pro-independence strategy. The first break between the two of them occurs when the ex-councillor leaves the Council for the Republic, but the biggest crisis was the day of the judgment of the General Court of the European Union that removed the immunity of Junts MEPs. That day, in an appearance alongside Puigdemont, Ponsatí publicly criticized the path of exile for generating false expectations: “The recurrent speculation that European judgments would lead to the return of President Puigdemont has not opened any path to victory either “.
