Citadins Show Character at Canadian University Basketball Championships

For a second consecutive year, the Citadins participated in the Canadian University Basketball Championships, which took place in Quebec from March 8 to 10.

In the quarter-finals, the Quebec champions lost 78-71 to the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees. Mario Joseph’s squad then bounced back in fine fashion, winning the consolation semi-final 88-80 against the University of Winnipeg Wesmen and the consolation final 80-70 against the Victoria University Vikes.

“We are a little disappointed, because our goal was to win the championship on Quebec soil,” commented Mario Joseph. Like last year, we showed character after a defeat by winning the next two games. I am confident that we will be able to win our first Canadian Championship next year.”

The Rouge et Or of Laval University, host team of the tournament, won the championship in front of its fans by defeating the Gaels of Queen’s University, a first for the University of Quebec. “I am not surprised by their success,” said the Uqamian pilot. Throughout the year, head coach Nathan Grant has prepared his troops well for this moment. All my congratulations to the Rouge et Or.”

On an individual level, DESS management student Kevin Civil was named to the second all-star team in the country.
