In the Bundesliga, after the home win against RB Leipzig on the penultimate matchday (2:1), the previous series of defeats (against Leverkusen (3:0), Lazio (1:0) and Bochum (3:2)) seemed to have been forgotten again. But Bayern couldn’t win again in Freiburg (2:2).

So much for the evening’s events: the Champions League anthem was played in the Allianz Arena, the players lined up and then it started. In the early stages it looked as if Bayern would level the deficit right from the start. The Munich team had many chances. Jamal Musiala scored in the 13th minute and Harry Kane in the 16th minute just before the edge of the penalty area. Bayern pushed Lazio into their own half but didn’t score.

After the first half hour, coach Thomas Tuchel’s team let up a bit. Lazio was able to defend with experience and less energy. In the 36th minute, Immobile had the chance to put Lazio in the lead with a header after a cross from Mattia Zaccagni, but missed. Shortly afterwards the time had come: in the 38th minute, Thomas Müller headed back a cross, Raphaël Guerreiro finished with a volley and Harry Kane held out his foot in the six-yard box. After taking the lead and equalizing the first leg result, Bayern turned things around again.

After a corner in the second minute of stoppage time in the first half, Matthijs de Ligt volleyed the ball onto the goal while still jumping. This time Thomas Müller held his head and the score was 2-0 – 2-1 overall the Bavarians.

Even after the break, the balance of power did not change. Lazio initially didn’t start playing more riskily and Bayern dominated the game. In the 61st minute, Lazio coach Maurizio Sarri made three changes. Ciro Immobile, Mattia Zaccagni and Matías Vecino were replaced by Danilo Cataldi, Gustav Isaksen and Valentín Mariano Castellanos. Bayern scored again in the 66th minute. Ivan Provedel could only let Leroy Sané’s shot bounce away. Harry Kane made it 3-0.

The Munich team were also closer to 4-0 than Lazio were to the point. In the 80th minute, Alessio Romagnoli received the first yellow card of the evening after an aerial duel with Harry Kane. In the 89th minute, Danilo Cataldi also received a yellow card after a frustrating foul.

Not much happened until injury time. Luca Pellegrini received the third yellow card (90+2). And Bayern Munich is in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

At the same time, Paris Saint Germain played against Real Sociedad San Sebastian and also moved into the quarter-finals after another win (2-1).
