The parenthesis is closed. The brilliant career of Thomas Andrieux and his players in the two cups was, in fact, completed in the space of eight days, each time against the same opponent: Vichy. First on Sunday February 18, on the last step of the Leaders Cup, at the end of a match fought to the end, but ultimately lost after extra time (97-90). A defeat all the more painful because in addition to offering a first trophy to the Union Marnaise, success in this competition would have guaranteed its place in the playoffs. Then on Monday February 26, this time at the gates of the top 8 of the Coupe de France, at the end of a still very close match played at René-Tys (83-80). Two defeats which hurt the head and which Champagne Basket must quickly evacuate to concentrate on the essential, namely the championship, with the objective of finishing among the first eight in order to participate in the final phase.
Victorious in six of his seven Pro B matches in 2024, Mathis Keita and his teammates (11th) must therefore resume the thread of a good series which allowed them to once again become a legitimate contender at the top of the ranking, after a first part of very disappointing season. This return to daily affairs begins this Friday, March 1, at the Arena du Futuroscope, against Poitiers (7th), before continuing, a week later, in another Arena, that of Reims, on the occasion of the reception of Pau-Orthez (5th), historic French basketball club, relegated to Pro B last summer.
