Celebrating Excellence: Ravensburg’s Athletes of the Year 2023

Outstanding athletes were honored at a ceremonial event in the concert hall in Ravensburg on Friday evening. Johanna Kneer, Emanuel Buchmann, Francesca Parcelli, Paul Boger and Marie-Luise Heilig-Duventäster are Ravensburg’s athletes of the year 2023. The Towerstars were voted team of the year.

In a dignified setting and with a great stage program, the city of Ravensburg and the Ravensburg Sports Association honored 180 children, young people and adults for their outstanding sporting achievements. Numerous city and local councilors, local mayors as well as federal and state parliament members were among the guests of honor. Mayor Daniel Rapp and the chairman of the sports association, Karlheinz Beck, carried out the honors and presented everyone with certificates and medals. Tobias Hübner and Jürgen Schlegel moderated the event.

View of the state gymnastics festival

In his welcoming speech, the mayor emphasized the importance of the 47 sports clubs in Ravensburg and gave an outlook on what is probably the most important sporting event in years. The state gymnastics festival will take place in the Mittleres Schussental community association from May 30th to June 2nd of this year. Over 10,000 athletes are expected. “Together with their carers, relatives and friends, we will have more people in the city than at the Rod Festival and Blood Ride combined,” said Rapp.

The chairman of the sports association, Beck, spoke out clearly against right-wing radical tendencies and said that they had no place in sport either. He then praised the work of the volunteers in the clubs. “Volunteering is the heart of the clubs,” he said. Three volunteers were honored for their special achievements: Sabine Schneider from the TSB Ravensburg Judo department; Sonja Wald, TSV Ravensburg handball department and Hugo Adler for his golf club in Schmalegg.

Karate, figure skating, judo

At the award ceremony in each of the main categories, three nominees were called onto the stage and their successes were presented. Hübner conducted short interviews and Schlegel picked the winner from an envelope.

Buchmann cancels tour

The men were nominated: Niklas Herrmann. The Razorbacks flag footballer took first place with the national team at the European Championships. Mattis Böhm, the figure skater from ESC Ravensburg, and Emanuel Buchmann were also nominated. Schlegel pulled his name out of the envelope. Since he is preparing for the Tour of the Basque, his parents accepted the trophy and announced that Buchmann would not take part in the Tour de France this year, but would instead start in the Giro Italia.
