CB Xàtiva Caixa Popular A Wins Autonomous Club League with Caixa Popular B Taking Bronze

CB Xàtiva Caixa Popular A has been proclaimed Champion of the Autonomous Club League and Caixa Popular B has taken bronze.

The Sunday day of March 24 was reserved for the dispute of the third and last day of the Autonomous League of Clubs of the Valencian Community where the two teams of the Xàtiva Badminton Club participate, Caixa Popular A and Caixa Popular B, who came to this last day as first and third classified.

The day began at 9:30 a.m. with the first round of matches where both CB Xàtiva teams participated. On the one hand, CB rival and prevailed with total authority by a resounding 0-5. At the same time, the teammates from CB Xàtiva – Caixa Popular B, had a complicated match against CB El Campello, in which the people from Setaba lost 1-4 but did not make things easy for the hosts of this last day.

After the first round of matches starting at 11:00 a.m., the second round of matches began, where CB Xàtiva – Caixa Popular A had a rest and CB Xàtiva – Caixa Popular B faced CB San Fernando de Valencia. This last match was very exciting because after the Setabeans lost in the mixed doubles, it was the turn of the men’s and women’s doubles, where Sarai Ramón and Vega Calatayud achieved 1-1, but Ximo Torres and Marcos Cimas could not add the men’s double reaching 1-2 at the turn of the individual events, with the obligation to add the two points in contention to win. In the men’s singles, Marcos Cimas did not fail and made it 2-2 on aggregate in the absence of Martina Molina doing the same. Martina faced Elena Muñoz in a match where equality was the tone of the first set that closed in favor of the Setabense 21-17, and in the second set Marina comfortably dominated the entire set, arriving with a wide advantage to the final stretch of the match, but the doubts at the time of closing the set made the rival get closer until the final score of 21-19 that was worth the victory for the people from Setaba.

After 12:30 in the morning the last matches of this 2024 edition of the Autonomous League of Clubs of the Valencian Community were called, where Caixa Popular faced CB Manises. David Polop, Vicent Molina, Soraya Gandía and Nuria Martínez once again showed themselves relentless to add a new 0-5 victory, which reaffirmed them in first position in the table and as champions of this edition.

On the other hand, CB Xàtiva – Caixa Popular B faced CB Teulada, in another disputed match where the people from Setaba achieved the victory by an aggregate of 3-2. The Caixa Popular players got off to a great start by adding the mixed doubles and the women’s double, and giving up three sets in the men’s double, arriving with 2-1 in favor to face the singles where Vega Calatayud managed to add the final point that gave the victory for the Setabeans. In the men’s singles, Ximo Torres was close to forcing the third set, but he couldn’t and fell in two sets, leaving the aggregate at 3-2 in favor of the Xàtiva players.

At the end of all the matches, the final classification was headed by CB Xàtiva – Caixa Popular A followed by CB El Campello and the teammates from CB Xàtiva – Caixa Popular B who achieved a hard-fought third place in their first participation in the league. After communicating the results, the president of the Valencian Badminton Federation Ferran Feliu presented trophies to the first classified.

The evaluation of the participation of the Setabe club in this edition, from the club “is very positive because with the group of athletes from the Caixa Popular A team this first place is achieved after several years of work and learning and with the Caixa Popular B with athletes who were participating for the first time in this type of competition, a great performance was achieved, which was accompanied by a well-deserved third position.” The club thanks CB Enguera and its athletes for their work and involvement “in helping us form two balanced and competitive teams and of course the Caixa Popular entity for continuing to support us season after season.”

Vicente Ferrer gets a gold and a silver in the Lardero TTR

On March 23, the senior category athlete Vicente Ferrer traveled to the Rioja town of Lardero to take part in the Top TTR Sub-13, Sub-17 and Senior that brought together a total of 74 athletes.

The Setabense participated in the men’s singles event of the B2 category where Vicente Ferrer won the three matches he played in the group stage to thus achieve first place and progress to the semifinal where he faced Sergio Juaniz, whom he defeated by 21-14 and 21-11. In the final, he faced the athlete Joaquín Clavijo, whom he beat 21-15 and 21-8 to win the gold.

In the B2 men’s doubles event he was paired with the athlete Alberto Pascual, where after being placed in group A they achieved first place in the group and thus moved on to the knockout phase. In the semifinals they overcame the match against the couple Sergio Juaniz and Ángel Urra, winning 21-14 and 21-8. In the final, the duo composed of Manuel Acero and Santiago Martínez awaited them, who after 32 minutes managed to beat Vicente and Albero by 21-19 and 21-16, leaving them with the silver.

2nd Provincial Day of the “Sports Games of the Valencian Community” benjamín

Also on the day of last Saturday, March 23, the Jaime Alegre Municipal Pavilion of the town of Enguera met the athletes of the benjamín category in the 2nd Provincial Day of the “Sports Games of the Valencian Community” in that category. Aarón Fasanar participated from the Xàtiva Badminton Club, who competed in the singles and doubles events with Adolfo Costa from AMPA de Ayora.

The Setabe player had mixed luck, as he missed both matches in the individual event after fighting both matches until the last point, playing a good game and dominating in several phases. Luck changed in the men’s doubles event where he, along with his partner Adolfo de, managed to win both matches played.

In summary, a good day for the Setabe player who continues to gain experience in competition and which will surely be very useful in the next tournaments to continue his evolution.
