Catalonia once again leads job creation in February

BarcelonaAfter a cold start to the year, employment statistics revived in February and Catalonia once again led job creation in the State. Specifically, it added 23,637 new members to the Social Security, an advance of 0.64% compared to the previous month, according to the data advanced this Monday by the Ministry of Social Security. Therefore, the total volume of contributors in the Principality is 3,698,533. In the last year, 94,788 new jobs have been created.

As for unemployment, it also fell again after rising in January. The number of registered unemployed fell by 698 people and there are currently 346,373 unemployed in Catalonia, according to statistics published this Monday by the Ministry of Labor. In the last year, this group has decreased by 4,915 people, a drop of 1.4%.

If we look at Spain as a whole, Social Security enrollment also advanced in February, with 103,621 new contributors representing an increase of 0.5%. The ministry has highlighted that the membership has exceeded 20.7 million employed and that it has registered the largest increase in a month of February since 2007. “In February, we once again recorded historically high levels, with even greater dynamism than in the previous months and we see the structural change that the labor reform has brought about”, defended the minister of the branch, Elma Saiz.

In the second month of the year, unemployment fell by 7,452 people in Spain and stood at 2,760,408, the lowest figure in a February since 2008. On the other hand, there are 150,607 fewer unemployed now than a year ago, a decrease of 5.17% in the volume of unemployed. Compared to January, unemployment fell in all sectors of economic activity: services (-8,548 people), construction (-2,433), industry (-1,865) and agriculture (-315).
