Casper Ruud starts the Masters 1000 in Miami (vs. the Frenchman Luca Van Assche) with some other complaints. As the tournament went on he did not forget that start and, against Nicolás Jarry, the three-time Grand Slam finalist’s anger settled.

“There are no towels, no cold water and only a plastic chair to change into. It’s a joke. And you know why, it’s because the tournament is too low to put something good on for the players. It’s not your (the referee’s) fault, but I’m just telling you how bad it is,” he said in the middle of the game.

Loud criticism aroused the interest of the tournament director, James Blake, who chose not to blame him: “He just had a frustrating time. So I understand and I don’t hold any grudges. I wish things had been different. The best way is to talk to me. Not going on the court and saying those things, but I completely understand. I think this is a case in which having been a player is very useful, because I know how to recognize when something is said in the heat of the moment and to a referee. “We live in an era of social media where things pick up and gain momentum.”
