Women’s Olympique Lyonnais earned their ticket to the semi-finals of the Champions League thanks to a successful return match and a 4-1 victory against Benfica this Wednesday evening.

TOPS

Cascarino took OL to qualification

Back from injury since January after a long period without playing, Delphine Cascarino showed that she was essential during the Champions League quarter-finals against Benfica. Particularly during this return match at Groupama Stadium won 2-1 by OL. The French international made her return as a starter on March 15, and launched the revolt by scoring the equalizing goal in Lisbon during the first leg. Author of a double this Wednesday evening, Cascarino outclassed his opponents by showing more desire than average. Interesting in the game, she also started pressing phases, like on her first goal resulting from an opponent losing the ball. And in the second half, she hit hard by scoring a missile at the edge of the area. With 3 goals in the double confrontation, Lyon owes its qualification to its number 20.

The good entries into play of Majri and Becho

Coming into play after the hour mark, Amel Majri and Vicki Becho were convincing. The major architects of Lyon’s qualification. After her lackluster match in the first leg, Majri started on the bench, but she quickly showed her dissatisfaction on the pitch through her gestures. Incisive, she tried for long minutes to score her goal by striking as soon as she could, stifling the Lisbonites. Becho also insisted at length on shaking the opposing nets. She came close in the 87th minute, when she brushed past Pauels’ right post. Even if they were not decisive in the last gesture, they brought what we expect of them when we think “bench depth”.

FLOPS

The clumsy Sommer

As in the first leg, Eugénie Le Sommer lacked skill in front of the Benfiquist goal. Placed at the forefront of an attack made up of the twirling Diani and Cascarino, we cannot say that number 9 was as convincing. Very early on, she missed a first opportunity (6th), before missing a huge opportunity on a cross from Diani a few minutes later (12th). She will not have found the fault during the half-time which was granted to her by Sonia Bompastor. Replaced at the break by Dumornay, the scorer remained silent this Wednesday evening.

Diani gave gifts that no one wanted

Established on the right wing of the red and blue attack, Kadidiatou Diani enjoyed her side but her teammates did not improve her work. Before the quarter of an hour of play, she made a good recovery to serve Le Sommer alone in the area, the first failure in a long series. Fifteen minutes later, do it again. No one is at the reception of his good center. In the second act, things did not improve and despite their differences in the right lane, none of their passes were decisive because of the poor finishing of the Lyonnaises. She repeated the operation multiple times on Becho in particular, but it didn’t work. So, the former Parisian did herself justice by scoring a double in stoppage time (90+1st and 90+3rd).
