Carolina Marín Wins Second Title in a Row at Swiss Open

The Spanish Carolina Marín won the final victory in the Swiss Open that was held in Basel after beating the Indonesian Gregoria Mariska Tunjung by 21-19, 13-21 and 22-20; her achieving her second title in a row after the prestigious All England which she won just a week ago.

Carolina’s winning momentum swept her away at the start of the second set, but a 2-8 by her opponent forced her to go against the current from 8-11. That unfavorable advantage of three points was multiplied by two, from 12-15 to 12-18, and the second act ended up being awarded to Tunjung by 21-13.

The final set also started uphill for the Rio 2016 Olympic champion, who went 4-10 after six points won on serve by her opponent. Despite this, she kept a cool head and reversed the situation to go ahead 12-11 with a 6-0 partial.

From then on the alternation was a constant, without any of them being able to get further than the two points that Marín had at 18-16. The favorable dynamic was broken by the Indonesian, who had a championship point saved by Marín. It was then his turn to serve and he did not forgive to close the match 22-20.

In this way, the Andalusian adds her second individual success so far this season after seven days ago in Birmingham and is crowned for the second time in her career in the Swiss tournament after doing so previously in the 2021 edition.
