A week after conquering the prestigious All England in Birmingham, Carolina Marín has won the Swiss Open, a Super 300 category tournament of the BWF World Tour. The Huelva player won the final, raising a match point, against the Indonesian Gregoria Mariska Tunjung by 21-19, 13-21 and 22-20. The triple world champion and six-time European champion confirmed in Basel her good feelings in the first quarter of the course and less than four months before the Paris Olympic Games. Carolina won the twenty-seventh trophy of her career in Switzerland and she keeps intact the options to be “top 4” in the Olympic ranking before Paris.
At the St. Jakobshalle stadium, the Andalusian was able to overcome a 4-0 deficit at the start of the match and stay in the fight. After the halfway point of the set, with four points won in a row, they took the initiative for the first time (13-11). The Asian, eighth in the world ranking, responded to regain her advantage, but the Spaniard recovered and was able to score the first set. However, Tunjung did not suffer the blow and barely offered any options in the second set, which closed with a comfortable 13-21. The Spaniard, who has overcome two serious knee injuries, is crowned for the second time in Basel, after also winning in 2021 and consolidates her options to aspire to the highest in Paris in the summer.
