Carlos Rivera celebrates his 20th anniversary at the National Auditorium – El Sol de México

On a day like today but 20 years ago Carlos Rivera appeared for the first time on television screens, as part of the third generation of the reality show “La Academia”. He remembered this tonight during his 18th concert at the National Auditorium, where he also announced that on July 4 he will perform at the Mexico City Arena.

“I perfectly remember being backstage thinking that as soon as I crossed that door my life was going to change,” said the singer, whose show began with “A trip to all parts” and “100 years.”

A trip around the world was the common thread of his show. The first stop of the fictional plane that appeared on screens and transported audiences was her native Mexico.

Rivera, who was accompanied by eleven musicians and dancers, took the opportunity to take a sip of his mezcal, Santo Gusano, and upon noticing that one of the attendees was carrying a banner asking for a toast, he invited her to take a “shot” with him. .

The actor also tried to set an emotional atmosphere when it was time to sing “Remember Me,” an Oscar-winning hit from the soundtrack of the movie “Coco,” but his emotional speech was interrupted when a fan yelled at him to make her a son. “They come out pretty,” she responded between laughs.

“Every time I have the opportunity to sing it becomes an opportunity to celebrate those who are no longer here with us,” he continued. “We are taught in Mexico to celebrate life more than death, and if we remember them they will live forever.”

Several people in the audience were moved by the song, and more than one took out a handkerchief to wipe away their tears. The show continued with “La luna del cielo” and “El would not exist,” and given the emotional nature of the lyrics, Carlos could not hold back his tears at the end of the latter.

Between anecdotes, jokes and reflections on his career, the musician interspersed between his songs and talks with his audience. His interventions were received with applause, and the occasional compliment that could be heard when the volume of the ovation dropped.

The plane reappeared on the screens, ready to take fans to the next stop on the musical journey, in Europe. There, the star of the play “The Lion King” also remembered his stay in Spain with songs like “Someone is waiting for me in Madrid” and “Give me back my heart.”

“Never underestimate the power of a riverista,” he said, remembering his first date at the National Auditorium (May 21, 2016). “You filled me with hope that there would be someone who would want to listen to me, and today we are ten thousand people.”

The pilots of the plane appeared on the screens again, to transport them to Brazil, where with carnival scenes, they welcomed the Riveristas with “Bendita tu vida”, a 2018 song from their album “Guerra”.

As is tradition among fans, they came to the show with messages dedicated to the singer, and Carlos pauses the show to read some and select the best ones to go on stage with him and sing “I love my madness.”

The pilots took their seats again, to take the audience to Paris, where the ten-time Lo Nuestro Awards nominee welcomed the people with songs like “It starts with my mouth,” “The Letter,” “Only You” and “ Your love”, which he performed together with Matias Damásio.

Before saying goodbye, Carlos took the opportunity to sign some autographs and shake hands with those who managed to get to the front row. However, at the insistence of the fans, who did not stop shouting and applauding, he returned to perform a couple more songs.

“Si me muero” marked his return, followed by “I expected you,” which he dedicated to his son León, who was sleeping in the dressing room, according to the singer. Before continuing, his fans sang “Las mañanitas” to him, since on March 15 he turns 38 years old.

So that 12 o’clock struck and he could celebrate on stage, he extended the show with songs like “A sailboat called freedom”, “If you are not here”, “The king”, “How to pay you?” and “I dreamed of you.”
