Carlos Alcaraz Dominates Lorenzo Musetti to Reach Miami Masters 1000 Quarterfinals

Unsurprisingly and almost without emotion, Carlos Alcaraz is in the quarter-finals at the Masters 1000 in Miami. The Spaniard, world No. 2, is more than ever a candidate for the “Sunshine double” (chaining titles in Indian Wells and Miami). And no more than Lorenzo Musetti than his previous adversaries has he been able to stop his progress.

Seeded n°23, the Italian is one of the finest hands on the circuit, without a doubt. And what’s more, he is one of the last representatives of the one-handed backhand. But all this, faced with the formidable efficiency of Carlos Alcaraz, is not worth much. Like all the others since the Murcian’s return to form, Musetti had to be content with bursts of brilliance, certainly magnificent, but too sporadic.

By having made the entry break, Alcaraz had put himself in the best conditions. Behind, he could afford to try what he wanted and stand up to Musetti in the register of beautiful gestures. For the public, it was all benefit. For the Italian, it was more complicated. The first set was over in less than 40 minutes and Alcaraz had no break point to defend.

The match was not over yet. Sometimes feverish on the court, Musetti showed great strength of character to stay in contact and erase a break with courage to return to 3-4. But Alcaraz had decided it was over. One of the Spaniard’s strengths is to be able to considerably raise his level in the moments that count. He then took a break again to give himself the right to serve for the match. One last formality.
