Cardinals optimistic with Sonny Gray

The St. Louis Cardinals are optimistic about the improvement that right-hander Sonny Gray has felt from his right hamstring strain.

The pitcher, who signed a three-year, $75 million deal as a free agent in November, threw from 60 feet Thursday morning to begin testing his right leg.

Gray, who was slated to be the Opening Day starter, left Monday’s game after feeling “a pull” in his right hamstring. An MRI scan on Monday revealed a “mild” strain.

Manager Oliver Mármol continues to hold out hope that Gray won’t have to start the season on the injured list. Thursday’s pitching session will give the team a clearer picture of Gray’s situation.

“We’ll see how he feels. But it is good news,” Mármol told Las Mayores.

“We’ll see how he responds.” [al día siguiente]. She will continue to move forward. He is a boy who understands his body very well. He’s been here before [con dos lesiones en la corva en el 2022]”So we trust what he says,” said the pilot.
