Call for Participation in the School Sports Games 2024: Promoting Youth Sports and Talent Development

The School Sports Games are a sports competition, convened by the Ministry of Sports, in conjunction with the Ministry of Education, organized and developed by the National Sports Institute, who will soon begin their competition stages, for which they are making a call to Municipal establishments, Individuals, Local Education Services, Foundations and Education Corporations, so that they can register boys, girls and young people, in the sub 10, sub 12, sub 14 and sub 17 categories.

This was stated by Seremi del Deporte Fernando Medina Vergara, “We are hopeful about the massive participation of students in the School Sports Games, it is the opportunity for each school or college to show the many talents that exist in each establishment, in the different sports disciplines, it is also the opportunity for athletes of the different communes of the region, are integrated into a single competition.” The disciplines available, for the male and female U-14 category, are: chess, athletics, para athletics, adapted athletics, handball, basketball, road cycling, MTB cycling, futsal, football, judo, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo and volleyball.

In this same sense, the Regional Director of the National Sports Institute, Jonathan Pino Naranjo, made an invitation to educational establishments in the region, saying: “We want to call on the Directors, Teaching Teams, Teachers in Charge and Technicians, of all the communes of the region, to participate in the competitions, highlighting that and emphasizing that these games are the beginning of competitive sports, for girls, children and young people, we could say that it is the first step towards high performance” and added: “you can access more information at: [email protected].”

During the year 2023, in the School Sports Games more than 215 educational establishments were present in the various categories, reaching a participation of 10,368 schoolchildren.
In addition, they seek to promote the development of school sports and are part of the National System of Sports Competitions. This system is defined as a systematic sports competition in girls and boys, maintaining or increasing the regularity of school competitions as a way to encourage and detect future generations of sports talents, at the base of their development, there is an orientation towards inclusion and respect for the diversity of all its participants, for its full development, the collaboration of municipalities, municipal corporations, through their sports and/or extracurricular education departments, regional governments, public and private services, is required.
