Calabrian Athlete Makes Debut at Italian Under 15 Freestyle and Greco-Roman Wrestling Championships

Today, the Italian Under 15 Freestyle and Greco-Roman Wrestling Championships took place at the Pala Pellicone in Ostia Lido, organized by FIJLKAM – Italian Judo Wrestling Karate Martial Arts Federation, both forms of Olympic wrestling practiced at a competitive level with ancient roots.

In free wrestling, wrestlers can use any part of the body to grab and attack the opponent, while in Greco-Roman wrestling the use of the legs to attack is prohibited and grappling is limited to the upper body and both require strength, agility and strategy to defeat the opponent.

Among the Calabrian sports clubs that participated in the event, there is also the ASD Sporting Center of Lamezia Terme, in its second year of membership in this discipline, led by Maestro Vincenzo Ruberto. For Sporting Center it was the first wrestling competition at a national level, earning important points for the general classification, with the athlete from Lamezia Giovanni Talarico who competed in the -41 kg category, facing three matches and coming close to the podium.

“For this competition I was very excited, but at the same time determined and aware of my abilities” declared the athlete from Lamezia “also because I have recently approached free wrestling. My first discipline is karate and I have been practicing it for six years, since I was a child. In this race I met fantastic athletes and people with whom I made friends and I hope to find them again next year.”
