On a cloud a few days earlier during the victory of Caen Basket Calvados against Quimper (89-65), Wendell Davis was the first to light the fuse in this shock of the fifth day of phase 2 of Nationale 1, between Chartres and the CBC, this Tuesday, March 26, 2024. The American guard made the string on his first shot (0.3, 1st). And he would do it again two minutes later (6-6, 3rd).

This first quarter was exciting. Both teams scored regularly and in this little game, it was the CBC who did the best, with a lay-up from Antoine Rojewski first, then two free throws from Earvine Basosumba (19- 24, 10th).

The defense has spoken!

The second act was going to be much more defensive. Enormous efforts were made on both sides of the field to block opposing attacks. Four points in less than a minute from Yanik Blanc allowed the Caennis to take a slight lead (21-30, 15th). But Chartres would fall behind with a 3-pointer from Thomas Prost a few seconds before half-time (33-36, 20th).

Chartres came back again

Chartres then came back to six points and the Caennais had one possession left to finish well. The ball circulated perfectly to arrive in the hands of Antoine Rojewski who drew a 3-pointer a few seconds from the end of the third act (46-54, 30th).

A surprising offensive error deprived the Caennais of a +11.

But at the end of the match, when Chartres scored from afar, the CBC responded automatically, as when Yanik Blanc found the target five minutes from the end (51-62, 35th).

Chartres-CBC : 64-68 (19-24, 14-12, 13-18, 18-14)

Chartres: Offurum 7, Fortas, Pellin 12, Kouguere 3, Wright 14, Doumbia 4, Tackamoud De La Croix 5, Prost 6, Thevenard 10, Hippolyte 3, Mukuna
Caen: Coulibaly 6, Siegwarth 10, Bernaoui 5, Davis 12, Blanc 11, Rojewski 11, Mutuale 2, Bassoumba 9, Njiba 2

Yann Siegwarth with a lay-up, then a foul continued to tip the scales in the right direction for the Caennais. But Chartres nibbled away, again and again (61-64, 39th). Caen still managed to stay in front until the end to win (64-68, 40th).
Here is Caen which passes Chartres in the ranking, in second place. Only five days left, and the first will go directly to Pro B.
