Bundesliga: Coach Christian Streich is leaving SC Freiburg at the end of the season

Christian Streich is stepping down from his coaching position at Bundesliga soccer club SC Freiburg after the end of the current season. The 58-year-old said this in a video message that the club published on its website.

He said it was the right time for new staff. The team needs this new energy. It was always very important to him not to miss the right time to stop, said Streich. He is firmly convinced that very good decisions will be made for the future of the club.

“I am extraordinarily grateful for the great support and affection that I have always received,” said Streich. He had hundreds of extraordinary experiences during his work and worked with hundreds of players. Streich said he was “full of gratitude” that he was able to experience all of this: “A great club, a great time for me – but now is also the right time to say goodbye.”

Streich took over as coach of the Freiburg professionals in January 2012. He had previously been a youth coach at the sports club for 17 years. The greatest successes were reaching the cup final in 2022 and participation in the round of 16 of the Europa League in 2023 and 2024.
