An 89-year-old woman from Herten will probably never forget this eerie encounter. When she had done her shopping on Friday afternoon (March 22nd) and returned to her apartment on “Zum Schloßpark” street, she surprised a burglar. In her own apartment. According to the police, the man gained access to the senior citizen’s rooms between 12 and 1:45 p.m. – and was then caught by her in the act.
The 89-year-old immediately asked the intruder to leave her apartment immediately, the police said. However, the stranger did not react as one might expect: he ignored the 89-year-old woman’s repeated requests and continued to rummage through the cupboards for worthwhile loot. But he didn’t find any riches from the 89-year-old. In the end he ran away again without any loot. The senior survived the encounter uninjured.
The woman from Herten was able to describe the burglar to the police as follows: around 1.80 meters tall, normal build, short dark hair and dark eyes. He was wearing light-colored clothing and a beige baseball cap.
