Brandon Moreno announces that he is retiring from MMA for one season

The last time Brandon Moreno could be seen in the UFC octagon was in his native country during the UFC Mexico City event on February 24. The former Mexican champion was the great host of the evening, but his performance did not have the prize of victory. He faced an old acquaintance, Brandon Royval, against whom he was defeated by split decision. It was a disappointment for Moreno, not only because he could not offer a victory to his audience, but also because it was his second consecutive defeat.

A few weeks after this fight, the 30-year-old fighter announced through social networks that he is going to take some time off. In a direct and honest message, the Tijuana native has acknowledged that he needs to take time away from the competition because he is not happy with his performance. “I think I’m just a little tired… of the media, the same questions, the atmosphere and the constant pressure,” ‘The Assassin baby’ explained.

“It has reached a point where my head feels tired and stressed, and I think I am going to rest a little. With this I am not saying that I am going to stay away from mixed martial arts 100%, but I do plan to take some time to rest to be with my family, to live like a normal person, to be with my daughters, to do different and new things that I have not dared to do before,” he explains.

Moreno is currently number two in the flyweight division, but he has held the belt twice before and has been one of the most popular champions in the category. The fighter has also assured that it is not a definitive retirement. “It’s not at all a goodbye or anything like that. It’s just a ‘wait for me, be patient,'” he has asked his followers.

I’m going to be champion again. I just need my mind and body to rest.”

It is not the first time that the Mexican takes time to compose himself. “The last time this happened, when I came back I became world champion. I want to think that I’m going to do the same and when I come back I’m going to blow it up,” said the former champion. “I’m going to be champion again. “I just need my mind and body to rest,” he said.

Brandon Moreno currently has a record of 21-8, with eleven wins by submission and five by knockout.
