Borussia Dortmund’s Marcel Sabitzer Suspended for Two Games After Red Card

Borussia Dortmund had hoped, feared and trembled after the narrow 2-1 win against Werder Bremen. Now there is bitter certainty about BVB star Marcel Sabitzer.

The newcomer was sent off in Bremen with a red card. The DFB has now announced the length of the ban. There is bad news for Borussia Dortmund and for Sabitzer.

Borussia Dortmund: Sabitzer decision official

When referee Deniz Aytekin ran to Marcel Sabitzer, the Borussia Dortmund professional already knew what would happen next. With a nod of his head, he accepted the second dismissal of his career. The Austrian hit his opponent Mitchell Weiser from behind in the Achilles tendon area during a Bremen attack.

No BVB player discussed with Aytekin because everyone knew the decision was right. Nevertheless, the Black and Yellows hoped that Sabitzer would get off lightly. On Tuesday (March 12th) the DFB announced the length of the ban.

The DFB sports court has suspended Sabitzer for two games. The midfielder will therefore not be available for the next two Bundesliga games – and both matches are extremely important for BVB.

Sabitzer is missing against Frankfurt and Bayern

Next weekend, Borussia Dortmund welcomes Eintracht Frankfurt (March 17th, 5:30 p.m.) and then visits FC Bayern after the international break (March 30th, 6:30 p.m.). This means he will also be missing in the top game against the German record champions. Sabitzer is a regular in head coach Edin Terzic’s team and is an integral part of the starting line-up.
