Bob Uecker to Kick off Brewers’ Home Schedule as Voice of Summer

MILWAUKEE — Bob Uecker will be on the microphone when the Milwaukee Brewers begin the home portion of their schedule Tuesday, against the Minnesota Twins.

After that, the workload will be to be determined, for the 90-year-old.

“Bob Uecker describing the first pitch of the Brewers’ inaugural game is the official start of summer in Milwaukee,” Brewers President of Business Operations Rick Schlesinger said in a statement. Bob plans to be on duty (Tuesday) on WTMJ and the network. Then he’ll take things one day at a time.”

Uecker has been synonymous with baseball in Milwaukee for more than 50 years. He became the voice of the club in 1971 and has been part of the broadcast team ever since. He has limited himself to home matches for several years.

Last year, Uecker was a regular presence on the field and in the locker room before matches.

There is a statue of him outside American Family Field and another inside the stadium.

Uecker played in the majors from 1962 to 1967 with the Braves, Cardinals and Phillies, before becoming famous.

A baseball analyst with ABC and NBC, he built his fame with appearances on late-night talk shows, beer commercials and the film Major League.
