In the Challenger in Arizona Matteo Berrettini – returning after injury – won in three sets against the Frenchman Atmane. Third comeback from a set deficit, back on court during the night

The legs hold up, the heart is doing the rest. Third comeback from a set deficit in a few days against a French opponent and semi-final in the Phoenix Challenger (Ariz.) for Matteo Berrettini, who after the Transalpines Gaston and Cazaux also eliminates the 22 year old Trence (3-6 7-6 7-6) Atmane, on a day very similar to a marathon given that, due to the rain which delayed the program, Matteo will find himself on the field already during the night to face the Australian Aleksandar Vukic.

Berrettini, in a match that lasted two hours and 56′, found himself down a set and a break behind (2-3) in the second: Matteo did well to take the serve straight away and dominate the tiebreak, winning 7-1. The match could have ended even before the second tiebreak: the Roman – who will play in Miami thanks to his protected ranking – had three break points in the ninth game to go 5-4 to serve to close, but the left-handed Frenchman did well to defuse them.

And so we arrived at the decisive game in which Berrettini demonstrated that he had the right shots and the physical strength to withstand a tiring point (the one that took him to 5-4) and to close with an ace on the second match point. Another step towards normality.
