Ben Simmons Faces Permanent Season-Ending Injury: What’s Next for the NBA Star?

It seems like Groundhog Day, but no Nets fan (and basketball in general) finds anything funny about it: for the umpteenth time physical problems – in his back – stop Ben Simmons but this time the Brooklyn Nets announce that the stop to their n°10 will not be temporary but permanent, at least until the end of the season. A season which for the LSU player will therefore last only 15 games, to which are added two entire years – 2016-17, as a freshman, and 2021-22 – missed in their entirety. The problem is now recurring, and so far without a solution (at least definitive), and concerns what the medical term “impingement” is defined as “a situation of conflict of an anatomical structure when compressed between two other contiguous ones”, in his case at a nervous level in the lower back. Simmons, for this reason already absent for 38 games in a row from the first week of November until the end of January, was back in civilian clothes for the Nets’ last 5 games, after playing just a dozen games. Now the definitive stop, with the player who – in agreement with the franchise – is seeking competent medical opinions that can treat his complex pathology in the long term.

With averages of 6.1 points, 7.9 rebounds and 5.7 assists in the 15 races held this year, Simmons is nearing the conclusion of a contract who pays it in his last year (the current one). 40.3 million dollars. Will be free agent in estateand with his rather complex medical history it could be difficult to find teams willing to invest significantly in a player who at the Nets he took the field in only 57 of a possible 109 games.
