Bayern sports director Eberl: A new coach should be appointed in April

Sports director Max Eberl obviously wants to waste little time in finding a successor for coach Thomas Tuchel, who left in the summer. Eberl explained that FC Bayern’s new coach should be decided soon.

At FC Bayern, planning for the new season has long since begun. Construction site number one is the position of the trainer. The farewell to Thomas Tuchel has long been decided and his successor should also be arranged in good time, explains sports director Max Eberl in a TV interview.

Eberl: “It would be nice if we could do it in April”

“We’re starting April, it would be nice if we could do it in April without me telling myself that this is the ultimate day,” said Eberl in an interview with “Sky”. “If it takes a little longer, it takes a little longer,” the new Munich sports director does not want to make a final decision. The main thing is to make a decision “as quickly as possible, but also as well as possible”.

Alonso “probably impossible”, will it be Rangnick?

Meanwhile, speculation about Tuchel’s successor continues. Leverkusen and ex-Munich player Xabi Alonso is Munich’s preferred candidate. Honorary President Uli Hoeneß confirmed this in an exclusive interview with BR24Sport. At the same time, he sees the chances of signing the Spaniard as very slim. The 72-year-old believes that it would be “probably impossible” to steer him away from Leverkusen.

If you believe the “kicker” Rangnick would be Alonso’s replacement. The people of Munich are said to be interested in the current coach of the Austrian national team. The contact probably came about through sports director Christoph Freund. Both know each other from their time together at RB Salzburg.

Liverpool is apparently no longer a competitor

At least there was some good news for Bayern on Thursday evening: At Liverpool FC, Alonso is not said to be a serious candidate to succeed outgoing team manager Jürgen Klopp. As ESPN and Sky Sports UK report, citing sources close to the club, former Liverpool professional Alonso is not on the Reds’ shortlist when looking for a coach.

Accordingly, Roberto De Zerbi from Brighton & Hove Albion and Ruben Amorim from Sporting Lisbon are the top candidates to take over the Klopp legacy. Alonso is also no longer a candidate at Real Madrid since the contract extension with Carlo Ancelotti – so the decision should only be between Bayern and Bayer Leverkusen.
