In terms of sport, things are going brilliantly for Bayer Leverkusen’s exequiel Palacios, but the 25-year-old has been dealing with a divorce dispute for a year in his private life. His ex-wife starts selling memorabilia – and also sues Palacios’ family.

Exequiel Palacios is world champion and is well on his way to winning the first German championship in the club’s history with Bayer Leverkusen. But privately, the central midfielder is involved in a war of the roses, and his ex-wife makes serious allegations.

Palacios and Yesica Frias had been a couple since 2018 and the two married in 2021. His now ex-wife was also at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, when Argentina became world champions for the third time. Palacios represented his country three times during the tournament.

But shortly after the tournament, the footballer and the influencer separated. Frias commented on the divorce on Instagram at the time: “He showed me who he really is. I loved him very much, but he disappointed me as a person.”

But now the divorce dispute is just beginning. Four weeks ago, the influencer made serious allegations against Palacios and his family, who moved to Germany with him when Palacios moved from River Plate to Leverkusen in January 2020.

Palacios’ ex-wife lost a child

“His family forced him to choose between them and me. His mother hated me. And his father once threatened to beat me. “That was a decisive reason for me to separate,” she said in an emotional interview on the Argentine broadcaster America TV. The pressure from the Palacios family also led to Frias having to terminate a pregnancy and losing her child. Palacios himself started cheating on her around the World Cup.

Frias also accuses Palacios of not wanting to sign the divorce that has been ongoing since 2023. At the same time, the world champion refused to provide financial support for the apartment in a suburb of Buenos Aires that he allegedly bought on installments.

“I will sell everything that is necessary,” says Frias

Frias threatened to sell Palacios’ World Cup jerseys and his World Cup medal via TV channels and social media. “I only ask him for what belongs to me, not even the marital assets he has in Germany. I will sell everything that is necessary,” she said on the TV show “Socios del Espetáculo” on Canal Trece.

On Thursday, Frias announced on Instagram that she had sold her ex-husband’s first jersey. A photo shows her with the buyer, and she wrote: “One less thing to worry about.” The buyer seen in the photo claimed to have also bought the World Cup gold medal. Frias had to backtrack on Thursday on TN News: Palacios has “the real medal, it’s a replica that he gave me.”

Leverkusen’s sports director Simon Rolfes takes a stand

Leverkusen also commented on the midfielder’s private disputes. Sports managing director Simon Rolfes told BILD: “We as a club have been aware of the separation issue for some time through our players. Pala never did anything wrong during the year of separation. He receives all support from Bayer 04 so that the divorce process can be carried out as normal in both Germany and Argentina. The fact that his ex-wife wants to make public claims probably speaks for itself.”

Palacios has been missing from Leverkusen since the end of January due to a muscle injury in his thigh. The 25-year-old could return to the league leaders’ squad for the derby against 1. FC Köln on Sunday afternoon (3:30 p.m./DAZN and in the world live ticker).
