Bavarian Facelift: Max Eberl’s Vision for Bayern Munich’s Future

These are times of change in the Bayern Munich. And after a complicated season, the Bavarians are clinging to the Champions League as the ‘easiest’ way to win the title this season and ‘save’ the season. In this process of ‘facelift’ it has arrived in Munich Max Eberl, the new General Sports Director. And one of his tasks is to reform the squad (and look for a coach) for 2024-25.

He spoke about all this in an extensive talk with ‘BILD’:

Alphonso Davies: “The negotiations (with his agent to renew, ed.) have been going on for a long time, but last summer they were interrupted a bit. We are working on this issue. Real Madrid? Real Madrid has not contacted us “I can say that we made Alphonso a very specific and grateful offer. At some point in life you have to say yes or no.”

Kimmich: “I recently spoke with him. He is a player who knows what he wants, with whom you can talk directly face to face: that makes things easier.”

Losing players: “No club, this also applies to Bayern Munich, wants to lose players for free if they cannot agree on a contract extension. If the players no longer want to be here, decisions have to be made. We want to have players who represent Bayern Munich, who want to identify with the club. I would like to have this motivation represented in the squad.”

Xabi Alonso: “He played for Bayern. But I don’t want to provoke headlines: ‘Xabi fits in at Bayern!’ I mean, he knows this club. He has a contract with Bayer Leverkusen, there he can win the national double… and also the Europa League. But back to the question: there are coaches who fit in at FC Bayern, yes. I haven’t talked with any coach and I have received neither approval nor rejection.
