This weekend was the big return of basketball, a sporting discipline that had not been played on the Tuamotu atoll since the covid 19 epidemic. Around twenty matches on the program, played by civilians and soldiers alike.

This weekend in Hao is marked by the big return of basketball with 8 teams, more than fifty participants and around twenty matches on the program.

The tournament took place Friday evening and Saturday all day in the Maroake Taharoa sports hall. If the participants had a great time, there were a lot of approximations obviously due to the lack of practice of the discipline. But awkwardness erased by the pleasure of being able to indulge in something other than volleyball or the very fashionable futsal.

In terms of participation, in addition to members of sports associations, young people from the MFR and soldiers from the RSMA joined the tournament. The final results are not yet known and will be communicated later.

Soon there will be the big return of handball, a sporting discipline which once brought glory to Hao in multiple local competitions.

Since the beginning of the year and until next June, the sports associations of Hao have organized themselves into a collective headed by Théodore Tuahine with the aim of going further in revitalizing sporting practice.

In short, sustainably relaunch sports that have been practically abandoned for several years and perpetuate other disciplines so that Hao can exist in the local sporting landscape. The opportunity for the island’s youth to find new impetus through sport.
