Baseball Scandal: Tampa Bay Shortstop Wander Franco Faces Allegations of Sexual Abuse

Scandal in the world of baseball, the Americans’ pastime. Tampa Bay shortstop Wander Franco has been placed on administrative leave until June 1 under an agreement between Major League Baseball and the players’ association while the investigation into an alleged sexual relationship with a minor continues. Originally accused of commercial and sexual exploitation and money laundering – charges that carry up to 30, 10 and 20 years in prison, respectively – Franco is instead charged with sexual and psychological abuse, according to the judge’s decision obtained by The Associated Press in January . If found guilty of the new charge, Franco faces two to five years in prison. Franco, who turned 23 on March 1, was in the midst of his third major league season when his career effectively came to a halt.
