Basco Country Snatches Narrow Victory Against Uruguay in Intense Match

The game started the way you might think, with our team trying to be the protagonist, use the wing and put pressure on the opponent’s exit to recover quickly.

Nicolás Fonseca standing as the rearmost midfielder and Zalazar forward to try to influence the offense, was part of what the coach planned in this match.

In ten minutes the first arrivals were for the locals, the initial one with an overflow from Alex Sola on the right with a cross that cut right into River Plate’s, and then it was Adu Ares who faced the middle from the left to finish, blocking Israel.

The light blues responded in the 12th minute with Luciano Rodríguez acting as a pivot to set up Agustín Canobbio whose shot went extremely high.

It was a match where the home team was comfortable, preventing the clear exit of an opponent who had speed but no clarity to create play, with Torres and Zalazar coming into play little, in addition to Olaza who hardly deployed on his side.

Around 25′ the first big scare came. An overflow on the left, where Guillermo Varela was not firmly on the mark, ended in a shot by Djaló that blocked the Sporting goal and gave it a rebound, which Alex Sola used to score. The assistant referee’s flag up, marked the offside that made everyone breathe and maintain the 0-0.

Stepping on 30′, a still ball that Zalazar himself sent, with a good hit, found the head of Bruno Méndez, but his attempt went just wide, while Loco gave instructions seeking to organize the functioning of a team that was not flowing.

At 36′ and with the same recipe came our country’s goal. A corner from the left that Canobbio took hit the post and Luciano Rodríguez ordered it to be saved, making the 3,000 fans present in San Mamés celebrate. But, again an out of place position, now from the Liverpool player, ended up canceling everything, maintaining parity.

At the end of that first stage came the local goal. A cross shot by Adu Ares warned of the proximity of something that came to fruition in the 44th minute, after a cross from the right, where Álvaro Djaló gained position over Bruno Méndez, settled in and finished before Marichal closed for the 1- 0. Minimal advantage for the Basques and at rest.
