Axel Laurance wins the 5th stage of the Tour of Catalonia

French sprinter Axel Laurance found the opening in the last meters to win in the sprint at the end of the 5th stage of the Tour of Catalonia. He is a quarter of a wheel ahead of the Dutchman Marijn van den Berg. Bryan Coquard finished third.

First Word Tour victory for Laurance

It was therefore a grouped peloton which presented itself on the finishing straight line of the 5th stage which validates the general classification of the morning, with the absolute domination of Tadej Pogacar who still has 2’27” over Michael Landa and 2’55” on the Russian Aleksandr Vlasov. Frenchman Lenny Martinez is fourth, 3’21” behind the Slovenian.

The last two scheduled stages will see the climbers try their luck on Saturday with a summit finish in Queralt. The adventurers could compete against each other on Sunday with a real mid-mountain stage to conclude this Catalan week around Barcelona.
