Austria’s Tennis Ace Falls to Cerundolo in Miami Masters 1000 Tournament: Next Stops Marrakech and Monte Carlo

At the Masters 1000 tournament in Miami, Austria’s tennis ace ends in round two.

The Styrian ultimately lost to the 20th seeded Argentinian Francisco Cerundolo (ATP 21st) after a hard-fought game 6:7 (2), 7:6 (2), 1:6.

It was the first meeting between the two players. Ofner celebrated his first victory in March in Round 1.

Ofner missed out on reaching the third round of an ATP tournament against number 20 in the hard court classic for the second time this year in Hong Kong at the beginning of January.

Since then he hasn’t had two victories in a row. “I would say two and a half sets were really good, but in the third I unfortunately felt my body a bit. It’s relatively difficult to maintain it somehow against someone like that,” said the Styrian.

Marrakech and Monte Carlo as the next stops

After all, Austria’s number one managed his first win against Nishikori on his current US trip, after previously suffering opening defeats at the Masters 1000 tournament in Indian Wells and at a Challenger in Phoenix. Ofner’s next tour appearance is planned for the week starting Easter Monday at the 250cc tournament in Marrakesh.

Before that, a “two or three day break” is very important. “I think Marrakesh and Monte Carlo will suit me very well and I’m looking forward to it,” said Ofner. “I think I’ll feel comfortable again on sand.”
