Austria Salzburg’s Path to Redemption: A Journey Towards Bundesliga Promotion

March 4, 2024

In the past few weeks and months of the so-called winter break, Austria has managed to solve what was initially a seemingly oversized puzzle, which allows us to keep up with the outstanding season that our team is having. As of today, the goal is clear at all levels: We want to complete this anniversary season in the spring, we are aiming for the championship title in the Regionalliga West – and above all: we (ALL!) have done everything we can to ensure that Austria Salzburg is back again in the summer can be a Bundesliga club.

The license required for this was applied for at the moment from the Bundesliga. What was just a small click of the mouse this Monday as part of another board meeting contains all the tireless work, all the passion and meticulousness that not only we were willing to put in, but – and this should be particularly emphasized – our most important contacts, without which this beautiful goal could not be proclaimed. Probably one of the most beautiful aspects that we can announce in the course of this whole good news: It is no longer just us who would like to see Austria Salzburg where this great club belongs – all the important players have an interest in this great path, which was chosen can be updated accordingly:

“We would like to expressly praise the work of Salzburg city politics, which has supported us in the last few weeks and months in a way that seems worthy and appropriate for the city’s largest and most successful football club,” says chairman David Rettenbacher.

THANKS!

The fact that things are looking so positive today is rooted in the unwavering loyalty and loyalty of our fans and members. They were, are and will always be the basis of our club – and you’re addressed, Austrians: you have the lion’s share, you were at the helm in the last few years when we made it out of obscurity under the most difficult conditions and into the now rosy prospects have. You are the mature Austria that has made this wonderful development. You are Austria, which has emerged stronger from the deepest valley. You are Austria, you are the thousand reasons to fall in love with our club!

One of the results: This reliable Austria is once again met on an equal footing. One very positive thing to mention is the collaboration with the Bundesliga during the licensing process. “The support we received when we asked questions was really great. “Uncomplicated, friendly, fast and at eye level – that’s what you want. The same applies to our auditors from the Fidas law firm in Graz,” our chairman also remembers the very central preparatory work that was carried out in November as part of a financial audit with very positive results The result was achieved – a special thank you goes to the GAK, who provided us with the law firm that was familiar with this procedure and was able to cope with this tight time constraint.

THANKS!

But back to the tasks that still had to be completed in the last few meters. Since there is still renovation work to be done at the time of submission, we have to submit the license application with details of an alternative stadium just in case. The search for it was basically the last big challenge that Max Eichbauer was able to take the lead in solving: “It was great how the board of SK Vorwärts Steyr supported us. We also had full support from SV Grödig – a possible move to the neighboring community unfortunately ultimately failed due to the political circumstances.”

Max Eichbauer, on behalf of Salzburger Austria, would like to thank SK Vorwärts Steyr for their cooperation regarding our alternative venue

THANKS!

A big thank you goes to our President Claus Salzmann, to whom and whose network we not only owe strong partners, but who, together with Max Eichbauer, also worked tirelessly on the extremely challenging issue of infrastructure and, together with city politicians, removed many obstacles. Construction plans for the necessary renovation work in the Max Aicher Stadium are available – so it is realistic that everything will be implemented by the start of the 2024/25 season and an actual move to Steyr will not be necessary.

So that Austria survives everything…

Austrians, also and especially because every thought of that time can make you pale as violets: As a club we have learned our lesson! At this point, last but not least, the most essential thing about today’s Good News, literally from our chairman David Rettenbacher:

“A fiasco like the one in the 2015/16 season, when Austria had to play its home games in four different stadiums, will definitely no longer happen.”

Now it’s time to work even harder on and off the pitch than before to make the dream of promotion in our 90th anniversary year truly come true. Surprisingly in terms of sport, things are now increasingly intertwined organizationally – we are looking forward to 14 red-hot spring rounds with the scent of a new blooming season in purple and white, it starts in twelve days!
