Asnawi-Shayne Absent, PSSI Relieved to Have Nathan

KOMPAS.com – PSSI General Chair, Erick Thohir, revealed that Asnawi Mangkualam and Shayne Pattynama could not play against Vietnam.

The Indonesia vs Vietnam national team match was presented in the 2026 World Cup Qualification group stage in the Asia Zone at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium, Jakarta, Thursday (21/3/2024) at 20.30 WIB.

The Indonesian and Vietnamese national teams then competed again at My Dinh Stadium, Hanoi, on Tuesday (26/3/2024).

Erick Thohir met the Indonesian national team coach, Shin Tae-yong, to discuss Garuda’s preparations.

During the meeting, Shin Tae-yong said that Shayne Pattynama and Asnawi Mangkualam could not be played.

Shayne was unable to appear against The Golden Stars squad due to injury, while Asnawi was absent due to card accumulation.

“I’m close to coach “Shin Tae-yong regarding the readiness of the Indonesian national team with Vietnam on March 21 and 26 2024,” said Erick Thohir, quoted from BolaSport.com.

“Coach Shin Tae-yong explained that there were several players who had not been able to play due to injuries and so on. “Like Shayne Pattynama (due to injury) and Asnawi due to card accumulation,” he said.

Luckily, Nathan Tjoe-A-On was able to defend the Indonesian national team, thus increasing Shin Tae-yong’s options to fill Asnawi and Shayne’s position.

“That’s what I always say repeatedly, why we need 150 players in the Indonesian national team,” said Erick.

“When, for example, Pattynama and Asnawi don’t play, the cover is thin. That leaves Pratama Arhan, maybe Sandy Walsh,” he said.

“Luckily, Nathan Tjoe-A-On (was able to play). So, his (lining) is thin. Even at senior level, we have to have 24 players of the same standard,” said Erick.

Nathan Tjoe-A-On took the oath of Indonesian Citizen (WNI) on Monday (11/3/2024) evening WIB. Erick Thohir hopes that Nathan will soon have an KTP and passport.

“For Nathan, yesterday with the process that was carried out, hopefully on March 21 (March) we will ensure that the KTP and Passport have been issued,” said Erick Thohir.

“These players have a short time, they even come 24 hours just to take the oath and process the oaths,” he said.

“I come back again, if we only work monotonously, that’s not good. We want a breakthrough and acceleration,” added Erick Thohir. (Bagas Reza Murti)
