Arthur Fils beaten in the quarter-finals in Santiago

There will not yet be a second semi-final this season for Arthur Fils. After that of Auckland in January, the Frenchman, 44th in the world, lost this Friday in the quarter-finals of the ATP 250 tournament in Santiago (Chile) against the Spaniard Pedro Martinez (3-6, 7-6 [5]2-6), ranked 101st in the world.

If he had managed to get back to a set everywhere at the end of a tight second round concluded in the tie-break, Fils, seeded number 3, did not manage to fight against the Spaniard during the third , the fault in particular of too many irregularities, as evidenced by his 6 double faults. However, he benefited from a good draw and could hope to play a second semi-final this season, after winning for his entry against Thiago Seyboth Wild in two sets (6-3, 6-3) on Wednesday.

The other Frenchman still competing in this tournament, Corentin Moutet – who passed through the qualifications – will play his place in the semi-finals against the number 1 seed in the tournament, Nicolas Jarry. The Chilean, 22nd in the world, performed well two weeks ago in Buenos Aires, defeating Stanislas Wawrinka, Tomas Martin Etcheverry and then world No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz in quick succession.
