In the Women’s Super League, leader Chelsea won the top match against Arsenal 3-1. The London derby started half an hour later, as Arsenal came onto the pitch in white socks, the same color as the socks of Chelsea’s home kit.

Because Arsenal had no other socks, the North London club was eventually forced to buy their rival’s ‘away’ socks from the fan shop. Chelsea and sponsor logos were covered with black tape.

In the first half, Arsenal fell behind painfully, after just 32 minutes it was 3-0 at Stamford Bridge, where 33,000 spectators were present. Lauren James and Sjoeke Nüsken scored twice for Chelsea, Ajax’s opponent in the Champions League next Tuesday.

Despite a late own goal by Catarina Macario, who unfortunately deflected a shot from Kim Little, it was no longer exciting in the final phase. At Arsenal, Victoria Pelova was in the starting line-up and Vivianne Miedema was missing due to an injury.

Lyon closes in on title

Danielle van de Donk and Damaris Egurrola are heading for the title in the French competition with Olympique Lyonnais. On Friday evening, the untouchable leader won 4-0 against FC Fleury. Van de Donk played the entire match, Egurrola came on during the second half, with a 2-0 lead.

With five games to go, Lyon is ten points ahead of rival Paris Saint-Germain. The Parisians, with Lieke Martens and Jackie Groenen in their ranks, will be in action against Saint-Etienne on Saturday.
