The new program includes a total of 34 sports, and uses the ‘Living Lab’ method in 5 gyms to reflect the characteristics of consumers and facilities.

According to the Corporation, within the first half of this year, the five locations, ▲Sangnoksu Gymnasium, ▲Gakgol Gymnasium, ▲Changmal Gymnasium, ▲Seongho Gymnasium, and ▲Wadong Gymnasium, will expand from the existing 17 sports and 33 programs to a total of 51 sports and 95 programs.

Representatively, Sangnoksu Gymnasium will add 9 sports and 23 programs to the existing 10 sports and 20 programs, including ▲Senior Wellbeing Dance, ▲Diet Pilloxing, ▲Zumba, ▲Challenge Dance, ▲Prop Therapy, and ▲Pilates. Weekend and early morning programs were also included through analysis of customer status.

In addition, Changmal Gymnasium, which was operated only as a day rental facility such as badminton and had no programs, will be newly established with 9 sports and 13 programs, including ▲ badminton ▲ Zumba dance ▲ indoor soccer ▲ junior basketball ▲ growth sports, etc., reflecting the characteristics of nearby residents.

Facility improvement plans were also discovered. Sangnoksu Gymnasium, which was criticized for its lack of rest space, is planning to install an unmanned cafe, and Seongho Sports and Culture Center is considering expanding the size of its gym. In addition, Gakgol Gymnasium is open for badminton and table tennis users on weekends when the facility is not available for rental.

This achievement is the result of residents near the gym and Ansan City Corporation employees working together through the Living Lab from January this year to the middle of this month. Five to six citizens participated in each facility, and each met a total of six times to identify the characteristics of the facility and come up with a revitalization plan. The newly added program will be operated within the first half of this year when instructors are secured.

Heo Soong, president of Ansan City Corporation, said, “As a result of thinking about revitalizing sports facilities with citizens, we were able to come up with several improvement plans that are more closely related to the lives of citizens. Based on this experience, we will apply it to various facilities.”

Meanwhile, Living Lab means ‘living laboratory’ and refers to an attempt by stakeholders such as citizens to come together to find solutions to problems.
