A global star in Cologne? Are you kidding me? Are you serious when you say that! When Andrea Petkovic (36) was introduced as such on stage before her appearance at the Lit.Cologne, Germany’s long-time tennis hope immediately contradicted it and made it clear: “I want to revise that.”
But the former world number nine still delivers great tennis in the sold-out Theater am Tanzbrunnen on Friday evening (March 8, 2024). At the premiere reading, she presents her new book as routinely as if she had always wielded a pen instead of rackets on the courts of the world.

In the newly published “Time to Get Out of the Dust,” Petkovic reports on the end of her tennis career and the difficult transition from professional career to role as an ex-player.
Even a year and a half later, the farewell is still full of emotions, as the 2014 French Open semi-finalist involuntarily proves. Just as she was reading the part for her last professional game in the summer of 2022, tears suddenly started rolling down on stage.
With appreciative applause, the audience and presenter Marion Brasch (62) accompany Petkovic through a sobbing minute that she had previously feared. “Sorry, you had to go through that now. But I announced it,” she can laugh again.

Laughter can be heard from the audience during the first reading, when Petkovic gets up from the chair and talks about her noticeably short outfit.
“The dress is very short. “It got lost in the laundry, but I planned it for a long time and it’s just the premiere dress,” she explains pragmatically and then adds with a wink towards the men’s world: “My eyes are up here.”
While Petkovic had to end her tennis career with a first-round defeat, the premiere reading in Cologne was a complete success. And in the end she even serves up the world star that was initially promised to the audience: Petkovic ends the reading with a bizarre toilet encounter in Los Angeles. When she accidentally went into the men’s bathroom, Grammy winner Harry Styles (30) suddenly appeared in front of her.
