Anderlecht Struggles with Infrastructure Issue for RSCA Futures Home Matches

Anderlecht is bothered by an infrastructure problem. The RSCA Futures play their home matches at the Stade Roi Baudouin, but there is little atmosphere. A problem that has been raised several times, but for which no solution has been found.

For Anderlecht, it is extremely important that the RSCA Futures participate in the Challenger Pro League. Young talents thus learn to play against adults quite early. The objective always remains to advance great talents as quickly as possible.

This season it was already predicted that they would have to fight relegation, but it quickly became clear that they were stronger than everyone thought. With four games remaining, they are almost assured of remaining with nine points ahead of the penultimate.

No other stadiums available

But home games pose a problem. For these Futures meetings, a few hundred fans show up. And we barely see them in a 50,000-seat stadium. The atmosphere during the match is therefore almost zero, which mainly works in favor of the opponents.

The Futures barely got 11 of their 32 points at home. A solution has been sought, but it does not exist. Previously, young talents played on the Dender field, but this field does not meet the requirements of professional football.

“We looked at all the options, inspected all the stadiums nearby,” sighs Jesper Fredberg. “The strict licensing conditions make it impossible to play elsewhere. For now, Heysel is the only solution.”

No completely new grass

And what to do with Lotto Park? Given the schedule, that’s not an option either. And more importantly: grass is a problem all season long. Significant work will be carried out this summer, but a complete new turf will not be installed.

It’s too expensive. “Total regeneration is carried out down to the sandy soil,” Fredberg added. But given that Anderlecht will probably play in the European Cup again next season, it is not possible to overload the pitch further. The Union Saint-Gilloise will also have to look for an alternative.

The RSCA Futures will therefore also play next season at Heysel. Anderlecht will try to make the matches more attractive for the fans, in order to attract more people.
